The St. Hubert School band program augments the already high quality of St. Hubert School student life offering both a full group performing experience and individualized private instruction. Band students join the program in fourth grade. Full group rehearsals are fifty minutes twice a week. Fourth grade band meets during the school day. Fifth and sixth grade band meets before school on Monday and Tuesday mornings at 8:00 am. Seventh and eighth grade band meets before school on Thursday and Friday mornings at 8:00 am. Private lessons have a 1:1 student to teacher ratio. Every band student attends seven 20-minute lessons each trimester scheduled during the school day. Computer-based music programs enhance instrument lessons, support student performance goals, and increase the student’s overall knowledge of music. Band students have multiple performance opportunities throughout the year.
An extra-curricular option within the band program is our Jazz Band. Jazz Band provides an opportunity for the motivated and experienced student instrumentalist to explore performance in the jazz medium. Membership in Jazz Band is by audition and with approval of the instructor. Concurrent membership in the fifth through eighth grade band is required (exception; guitarists and keyboardists). This ensemble is not for credit and meets on Wednesdays before school at 8:00 am from October through May. Jazz Band students also have multiple performance opportunities throughout the year.
