Our experienced and dedicated teaching staff work in teams to design creative lessons which use young students’ natural curiosity and desire to learn. Through professional development and continuing education our teachers are committed to bring quality and best practices to lessons taught. In fifth through eighth grade, St. Hubert School students experience religion, mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, Spanish, physical education, technology, health, art, and music classes. Middle school students also have the opportunity to participate in band, choir, and athletics. Over half our St. Hubert School middle school students decide to participate in all three additional curricular opportunities.
As a Catholic school, faith is at the heart of all that we do and teach. Our teachers are dedicated to supporting the students and working with parents to help our students become 21st century global citizens. In conjunction with parents, we work to instill a love of God and of learning that will help our students meet the challenges of education and life beyond our St. Hubert School community.
We believe the foundation of religion is the conviction that God is always present in our daily lives. Our students become aware of the responsibility they have to themselves, each other, and the world around them through the teachings of Jesus Christ, taught through doctrine, tradition, scripture, and prayer. In the middle school, teachers focus on further developing a relationship with God, the Bible, and a greater understanding of our Catholic faith.
We believe our rigorously critical-thinking based math program will provide resources and instruction for individual needs. St. Hubert School students are able to apply math concepts to real world situations. Our math teachers find a balance of teaching both conceptual and procedural mathematics to deepen our students’ understanding of the world around them and bring math to life. While our students will leave St. Hubert School with a minimum of completing an Algebra 1 course, some students will have the opportunity to complete a high school level geometry course.
We believe the goal of a language arts program is to create effective communicators. Using the interrelated process of reading, writing, speaking, and listening, St. Hubert School students will learn to communicate with confidence, clarity, creativity, and competence. Our students will also understand and appreciate different genres, be able to follow written and spoken directions and find information using different means. Our middle school students are given weekly opportunities across curricular areas to demonstrate their communication skills through various writing and speaking opportunities.
We believe science should enhance each student’s curiosity and develop their ability to investigate, analyze and explain the biological, physical, chemical, and technological world around them. Our teachers balance the use of hands-on experiences and direct instruction to excite their students about monarchs, the human body, architecture, and a variety of other topics.
We believe the social studies program creates responsible citizens who are accepting of cultural diversity in our global society. Through understanding the past and present, St. Hubert School students will be able to meet the challenges of their future. Our teachers help students understand events globally, nationally, statewide, and locally through historical and present context.
We believe that through the study of another language and culture, St. Hubert School students will gain a better understanding of the world and their relationship with the world. By teaching our students a second language, our teachers are helping St. Hubert School students become more globally competitive. Many middle school students leave St. Hubert School satisfying local high school requirements for Spanish 1.
Physical Education and Health
We believe through the physical and health education program, St. Hubert School students will develop lifelong skills to lead healthy lifestyles. Our skilled teachers have developed a program consisting of activities and experiences that promote health, safety, physical, and social skills. These experiences help our students form positive self-images.
We believe our technology program supports our students understanding, use, and proficiency of technological skills. The preparation and technology usage St. Hubert School students experience enables them to meet the future challenges they encounter. Our students develop strong word processing, multimedia, video, presentation, and creative skills through multiple technological tools to become competitive 21st century learners and citizens.
We believe that art is a balance of creative experiences, skill development, and knowledge. Our teachers deliver unique experiences comprised of these components in an environment that is student-centered, discipline based, and structured. We are proud of student’s artwork. It can be found displayed throughout the school hallways.
We believe our music program fosters our students’ creativity, self-confidence, and love of music. In grades kindergarten through four, students attend a general music class. Through singing, movement, instruments, and listening, students gain a musical foundation they can build on for years to come. General music continues for grades five through eight, with a focus on composition, theory, movement, and music appreciation. Students that desire additional musical and performance opportunities may join band in grades four through eight, choir in grades five through eight, and jazz band in grades six through eight.
We believe the St. Hubert School band program augments the already high quality of St. Hubert School student life. Band students receive the educational advantages of one-on-one individualized music lessons and live performance opportunities. Group rehearsals and performances foster confidence and social skills in our students. The St. Hubert School band program is central to the spiritual and academic growth of our students.
We believe the choir program is a vital part of the St. Hubert School Community. Students in choir lead the singing at Mass each week. Through the rehearsal process, students build a solid choral foundation and learn to work together. Students receive multiple performance opportunities throughout the year, which builds confidence and self-esteem.
